On Jan. 20, at about 10:31 pm, Beaumont Police Officers responded to the area of I-10 and Washington Boulevard in reference to a stolen black 2002 Chevrolet Impala, Officer Carol Riley said in a release.

Jan. 10, 2018, the Jefferson County Narcotics Task Force developed information that a package of narcotics was being delivered to 3152 Main, Groves. A search warrant was signed for the package and it was discovered to hold approximately 50 grams of THC base in assorted packages. Some of the packages contained the THC in the form of “Butter” (in white jar), “Shatter” (brown flat substance), Vape sprays and thick liquid in syringes.

Multiple vehicles have been burglarized in Groves, according to the Groves Police Department.

Seven vehicle burglaries were reported in the 5300 block of Gulfway Drive on Dec. 16.

Fun in a nutshell at Groves Pecan Festival 2017

It’s time to celebrate the lovely pecan as the 48th annual Groves Pecan Festival is now four full days beginning Thursday, Oct. 26, and running through Sunday, Oct. 29, at Lions Park (6200 Jackson). If you are looking for “fun,” you can find it in a “nutshell.”

Families are welcome to attend and eat your way through the food area with ice cream, funnel cakes, pecan pie, curly fries, gumbo, hamburgers, barbecue, pork-a-bobs, boudain balls, nachos, pistolettes, breakfast food then you can wash it down with freshly squeezed homemade lemonade.

For Kevin Smith, bringing back Monceaux’s to Mid-County means more than just bringing back a popular restaurant dating back decades. He’s also keeping his mother’s memory alive, and her treasured recipes.

The late Helen McKinney was the cook at the original Monceaux’s in Port Arthur and brought her recipes with her when she began working there.

The 2017 Pecan Festival Queen’s Scholarship Pageant will be held Saturday, Sept. 23, in the auditorium at Groves Elementary, 3901 Cleveland Ave., at 7 p.m. Tickets purchased at the Groves Chamber of Commerce office are  $10 for adults and $5 for students through 12th grade. At the door, tickets are $12 and $6.

A Jefferson County grand jury has indicted Willie Ford III, 24, of Port Arthur for fleeing a police officer Feb.18 and starting a fire at an apartment on Gulfway Drive on Feb. 19.

Residents along Allison Avenue and Woodlawn Street in Groves say their streets have been puckered with potholes and drain poorly after years of rainstorms.

Their neighborhood, built in the late ’50s and early ’60s, is now overgrown with large live oak trees that were just saplings when the roads were originally built.

Taylor Cochran has lived on Allison Avenue since 1994. His family moved into the house when he was a child.

Local merchants have reported three counterfeit bills to Groves Police Department so far this year, according to Deputy and Court Coordinator Lauren Edgar’s weekly reports.

The Dairy Queen on 39th Street received one counterfeit $20 bill Jan. 16 and a $50 bill on Jan. 28. The Express Mart Shell convenience store on Pure Atlantic Road received another counterfeit $20 bill on Jan. 29.
