Many people in the Beaumont community worry about where their next meal will come from. LongHorn Steakhouse is working to give those in need some relief. Every week, the LongHorn Steakhouse in Beaumont gathers unused, surplus food and prepares it for donation to Some Other Place.

Items like steak, fish, potatoes, honey wheat bread and vegetables are donated.


Most students look forward to their summer holiday away from school and homework, but summer break can be a difficult time for parents who depend on the school meal programs that provide their children with healthy breakfasts and lunches.

Government data collected by the Feeding America network of food banks indicates that in 2014, 46.7 million people were in poverty, including 15.5 million children under the age of 18; and 48.1 million Americans lived in food-insecure households, including more than 15 million children.

While the holidays are a time for cheer, celebration and religious observance, it is also a chance to reflect on the problem of hunger for many Southeast Texans.

Hunger and Homelessness Week is held each year the week before Thanksgiving, from Nov. 15-23 this year, to promote the effort to end hunger and homelessness, also affording an opportunity to examine the problem of poverty in Texas.
