Governor Greg Abbott issued an executive order June 13 to extend the activity of the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners past its set expiration of September 1, 2019. Governor Abbott utilized Section 418.016 of the Texas Government Code, which allows the Governor to suspend provisions of regulatory statutes prescribing the procedures for the conduct of state business if strict compliance would in any way prevent, hinder or delay necessary action in coping with a disaster.

A representative from Payless confirmed that the shoe store chain will be reopening their location on MacArthur Street in Orange.  

The store has been abandoned since August 2017 due to flooding from Harvey.

Payless’ real estate department could not yet provide a date for the reopening, but persons interested in applying for employment are urged to visit https://stores-payless.icims.com/jobs.

The Shangri La Botanical Gardens and Nature Center will be reopening, after closing for more than a year due to Hurricane Harvey, Wednesday, Sept. 12. Admission is free; however, due to the flooding from Harvey, the Outpost Tours will be under repair and therefore suspended until early 2019. The Exhibit Hall will also be closed. Though it has been closed for some time the garden is ready for visitors again.

The Shangri La Gardens consists of more than 250 acres in Orange that hosts the Hanging Garden, Pond of the Blue Moon, Sculpture Gardens and more.
