I-10

Two people were killed Wednesday morning in a multi-vehicle wreck along Interstate 10 in Orange County that has closed all westbound lanes.Troopers were notified at about 5 a.m.

Deputies with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office made two arrests stemming from a traffic stop on Oct. 24. At about 2:30 p.m., deputies stopped a Chrysler 300 on Interstate 10 near Smith Road for a traffic violation. After interviewing the driver and passenger, they refused to consent to search the vehicle. K-9 Mygo was deployed to conduct an open air sniff. Mygo displayed a positive alert for the presence of narcotics.

Part of Interstate 10 will be going down to one lane with alternating lane closure starting Friday, Dec. 14, at 9 p.m. and ending Sunday, Dec. 16, at 5 p.m. The closures will be from Hamshire Road to FM 365 and come as part of the I-10 widening and reconstruction project.

Lanes of I-10 at College Street will be closed in Beaumont on Saturday, Nov. 3. The lanes that will be closed include the right lane of the northbound feeder road, the eastbound inside left turn lane of College and the U-turn north of College Street (U-turn allowing southbound traffic to turn and merge onto northbound feeder road).

A vehicle driving against traffic caused a multi-vehicle crash on the Purple Heart Memorial Bridge in Orange County the morning of Saturday, Oct. 27.

A medical emergency may have been behind a costly accident that occurred just after lunchtime Oct. 17 at the Mike Smith BMW dealership off of I-10.

An 18-wheeler left the roadway, crossing the service road before crashing into another vehicle and then into the lot of the dealership, hitting several cars there. It is believed the driver had a medical emergency, causing the collisions. The driver was transported to the hospital but there were no reports of serious injuries.

According to information from Chief Rod Carroll with the Vidor PD, on Oct. 11 at approximately 7:45 AM, the Vidor Police Department received a call of a major accident on the I-10 Service road near FM 1132. A passenger van was traveling eastbound on the I-10 service road near S. Lakeside. A City of Vidor sanitation truck was stopped in the outside lane picking up trash cans. The sun was obstructing the view of the eastbound drivers. The driver of the van saw the trash truck at the last moment and attempted to change lanes striking the sanitation truck in the rear.
