Robert Lewis, 62, of Beaumont, was indicted in Jefferson County for murder Sept. 20. Lewis was originally arrested for the crime on Aug. 11 after police responded to a report of a disturbance on Pine Street and found the suspect at the location with a man who had apparently been strangled.

On Wednesday, Sept. 13, the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office received an indictment on a former police officer.

Linnard Couch, 41, was indicted for felony theft with a $5,000 bond.

Charles Ryan Venable

A Jefferson County grand jury has indicted Charles Ryan Venable, 35, of Beaumont, for stealing baby formula and baby wipes from HEB on FM 365 in Port Arthur.

June 28, witnesses at the grocery store told Port Arthur police a man in a blue shirt ran from the store with a basket of merchandise that he did not pay for, the probable cause affidavit states.

The officer located Venable in a red Ford sedan behind the Jack in the Box on FM 365.

Juan San Miguel

Monday, July 24, Jefferson County Sheriff Zena Stephens was notified by the Beaumont Police Department that part-time Jefferson County Courthouse Security Officer Juan San Miguel was under investigation for sexual assault. It was planned that he would be placed on administrative leave without pay, according to a press release from the sheriff’s office, but San Miguel failed to show up for work Monday, July 24, through Friday, July 28.

A Jefferson County grand jury indicted 44-year-old Humble resident Terrance Claiborne for third-degree felony marijuana possession March 8 following his Jan. 23 arrest, when deputies allegedly discovered bundles of cash and more than five pounds of marijuana in his vehicle during a traffic stop, according to information from the Jefferson County District Attorney's Office.

A Beaumont woman was indicted for deadly conduct by a Jefferson County grand jury March 8 for allegedly firing a .38-caliber Smith & Wesson multiple times toward her ex-husband who, she told an officer, had "screwed her out of so much," according to a probable cause affidavit for her arrest. Lois Gayle Fontenot, 65, faces third-degree felony charges for the Feb. 7 incident, which she reportedly called "a crazy moment."
