Jefferson County Criminal District Attorney Bob Wortham announced Oct. 5 that a grand jury has returned a no bill in the matter of the in-custody death of Manuel Delacruz, 26, of Port Arthur on Aug. 1.

A 20-year-old Port Arthur woman has been indicted by a Jefferson County grand jury for two felony offenses of leaving the scene of an accident after she hit a moped carrying two teens, resulting in one’s death and the other’s serious bodily injuries on Feb. 21.

U.S. Attorney John Malcolm Bales announced May 9 that 11 Jefferson County men are in custody following a lengthy investigation into drug trafficking involving the distribution of crack cocaine in the Eastern District of Texas.

According to a news release from the U.S Attorney's office, a combined task force of federal, state and local law enforcement agencies began executing federal arrest warrants on May 6 for defendants indicted following a ten-month investigation into the distribution of crack cocaine in Beaumont.

Three individuals, including two federal inmates, have been indicted in connection with an escape from a Federal Correctional Complex in the Eastern District of Texas, announced U.S. Attorney John M. Bales May 5.

Todd Allen Hammer, 40, and Jason Wesley Tate, 44, both federal inmates housed in Beaumont, Texas, and Lorna Leslie, 55, of Sherman, Texas, were indicted by a federal grand jury on Apr. 4, 2016, and charged with escaping from federal custody and conspiracy to escape from federal custody.

Accused kidnapper Cody Melton, 35, was indicted Sept. 16 on aggravated kidnapping and aggravated assault family violence charges after the Beaumont man allegedly stabbed his girlfriend and abducted her 4-year-old child in Jefferson County on Aug. 25.

The District Attorney’s Office announced Aug. 26 that a Jefferson County grand jury voted to take no action after considering the circumstances of the fatal shooting involving a homeowner, who fired on a teen intruder in Hamshire.

A 32-year-old Beaumont, Texas man has been arrested for possessing Lego-shaped blocks of synthetic marijuana in the Eastern District of Texas, announced U.S. Attorney John M. Bales Friday, Aug. 8.

Indictments are in for two Beaumont Independent School District employees charged with embezzling millions from the district.
