On Sunday June 4, around 6:30 a.m., an inmate in the medical infirmary of the Jefferson County Correctional Facility reported that his bunkmate, a 70 year old white male, was unresponsive. Jail staff immediately began CPR and notified EMS.  They continued the CPR until EMS arrived and took over.

An immate at the Jefferson County Jail died in custody, reports Jefferson County Sheriff's Office Captain Crystal Holmes, and an autopsy has been ordered to determine what caused the 70-year-old man's death. 

In a news release, Capt. Holmes indicated that an inmate in the medical infirmary reported that his bunk mate was unresponsive at about 6:30 a.m. June 4. Jail staff immediately began CPR and notified EMS. They continued CPR until EMS arrived and took over. The inmate was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office has identified a man who died in the book-in area of the office on March 18 as 33-year-old Byron James Sessions of Nederland.
