A toxic national trend of pharmaceutical drug abuse is leaving a wide swath of death in its wake, and Southeast Texas is no exception, according to authorities.

“Oh, it’s here,” Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office investigator Marcelo Molfino told The Examiner. “Interstate 10 is a pipeline for drugs.”

The Texas Department of Transportation is asking for public input on the next section of Interstate 10 in preparation of widening the roadway from four lanes to six lanes between Winnie and Beaumont.

A multi-vehicle accident caused one of the cars to catch fire on I-10 eastbound in Vidor, Texas Department of Public Safety reports. The accident occurred at 8:45 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12.

A 1965 Ford Falcon was traveling eastbound on Interstate 10 near Rose City when the right tire came off of the Ford, sending the vehicle into a spin. The Ford struck the inside concrete barrier and became disabled in the roadway. The dislodged tire from the Ford struck a 2011 Chrysler passenger vehicle.

TxDOT announced on Sept. 29 that plans are being made to widen I-10 from Winnie to Hamshire Road, according to a statement.

The Texas Transportation Commission awarded a $43 million contract to Williams Brothers Construction. This project is the first phase in a series of four that will expand I-10 from two lanes to three lanes from Winnie to Beaumont.

A crash involving a truck tractor semi-trailer and a passenger vehicle shut down the westbound lanes of Interstate 10 in Orange County near FM 1442, and resulted in injuries, Sgt. Stephanie Davis of the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) reported in a news release Sept. 30.

A Sugar Land mother died after being thrown from her vehicle during an accident that involved a tire blowout on Interstate 10 July 23, reports Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Stephanie Davis.

Many weekend travelers of Interstate 10 in Orange County and across the Louisiana state line experienced delays resulting from two separate multi-vehicle accidents July 17, Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Stephanie Davis reported. 

According to Davis, DPS was alerted to both accidents at around the same time, 3:50 p.m.
