A Jasper police officer placed on administrative leave in August has been indicted on charges of sexual assault of a child for abuse alleged prior to employment with the department, reports Lt. G.W. Foster of the Jasper Police Department. Jasper Police Chief Gerald Hall has recommended the officer's termination from the department and is awaiting final approval from the city council.

On August 20, at about 12:30 p.m., the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) responded to a two vehicle crash on Highway 63, near FM 2799 and CR 110, in Jasper County.

Preliminary reports indicate that a 2015 Dodge Durango was traveling westbound on Highway 63. A 1995 Chevrolet pickup truck was traveling southbound on CR 110. The driver of the Chevrolet pickup truck failed to yield the right of way and pulled out in front on the Dodge. The Dodge Durango struck the Chevrolet pickup truck in the driver-side door.

A 35-year-old Kirbyville man with a lengthy criminal history has been sentenced to federal prison for drug trafficking violations in the Eastern District of Texas, announced Acting U.S. Attorney Brit Featherston on March 31.

McGee Lamar Falcon pleaded guilty on Oct. 16, 2016, to conspiracy to distribute and possess methamphetamine and was sentenced Friday to 204 months in federal prison by U.S. District Judge Marcia A. Crone.

In a statement released March 22, Jasper Police Department Chief Gerald Hall revealed an officer in his department has resigned amid allegations that she stole from the Jasper Police Association.

According to the statement, members of the Jasper Police Association told him March 7 that there were possible unauthorized charges on the accounts of the association that were made by an officer within the Jasper Police Department, namely Officer Wanda Brister.

Synthetic marijuana

Known on the street at K-2, spice, fake, fake bake, woo, Kush and a variety of other names, synthetic marijuana continues to plague Southeast Texas. Law enforcement officers believe the chemical compounds contained within the dangerous products, used by manufacturers to mimic the high produced by marijuana, are responsible for three recent deaths in the area.

A motorist died after a one-car accident on US 69 near Woodville, the Texas Department of Public Safety reports.

The accident occurred in Tyler County on Wednesday, Nov. 2, about 2 p.m., approximately five miles south of Woodville.

A 2014 Chevrolet pickup truck was traveling southbound on US 69. For an unknown reason, the driver crossed the center dividing line, overcorrected and drove off the roadway. After traveling off the roadway, the vehicle struck a tree.

At approximately 1:00p.m., the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) received a report of a multiple vehicle crash on Highway 190 in Jasper County. The crash occurred approximately two miles west of Jasper.
