Following a recent series of violent incidents centered in the city of Beaumont, a federal grand jury in Jefferson County has indicted 32 individuals, many with alleged gang ties, on various charges, Acting U.S. Attorney Brit Featherston reported Aug. 15.

Charles Ryan Venable

A Jefferson County grand jury has indicted Charles Ryan Venable, 35, of Beaumont, for stealing baby formula and baby wipes from HEB on FM 365 in Port Arthur.

June 28, witnesses at the grocery store told Port Arthur police a man in a blue shirt ran from the store with a basket of merchandise that he did not pay for, the probable cause affidavit states.

The officer located Venable in a red Ford sedan behind the Jack in the Box on FM 365.

Juan San Miguel

Monday, July 24, Jefferson County Sheriff Zena Stephens was notified by the Beaumont Police Department that part-time Jefferson County Courthouse Security Officer Juan San Miguel was under investigation for sexual assault. It was planned that he would be placed on administrative leave without pay, according to a press release from the sheriff’s office, but San Miguel failed to show up for work Monday, July 24, through Friday, July 28.

The Jefferson County Courthouse, along with other government buildings, was evacuated Aug. 7 for the second time in about two months due to erroneous bomb threats at the building, reports the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.
