Considered one of the greatest films of cinema, the 2001 epic fantasy adventure The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring will be shown at Classic Movie Night at the Jefferson Theatre (345 Fannin St.) on Friday, Aug. 4. Directed by Peter Jackson, The Fellowship of the Ring is based on the novel by J.R.R. Tolkien and is the first installment of the three The Lord of the Rings series. A meek hobbit from the Shire and eight companions set out on a journey to destroy the powerful One Ring and save Middle Earth from the Dark Lord Sauron.

Tickets are now on sale for “An Open Book: An Evening with Justin Furstenfeld of Blue October” on Saturday, Sept. 30, at the downtown Jefferson Theatre. This rare and intimate show features Furstenfeld, vocalist, songwriter and guitarist for the rock band Blue October, playing an acoustic set of songs never before heard, as well as stripped down and softer versions of Blue October fan favorites. The evening will also consist of spoken word and a Q&A session, allowing the audience to interact with him.

If you attended The Godfather on Classic Movie Night on July 14, then don’t miss the Friday, July 21 showing of The Godfather Part II. The 1974 film directed and produced by Francis Ford Coppola is both the sequel and prequel to The Godfather and keeps most of the same cast including Al Pacino, Robert Duvall, Diane Keaton and Robert De Niro. Many critics proclaimed the sequel was better than the first movie.

The movie depicts the early life and career of Vito Corleone in 1920s New York. And later, his son Michael expands and tightens his grip on the family crime syndicate.

Five-time Grammy Award winning blues musician Robert Cray will perform at the Jefferson Theatre on Sunday, Oct. 15. Ticket information for the show will be released soon. Cray, who has been performing since 1974, has been bridging the lines between blues, soul and R&B for the past four decades. A member of the Blues Hall of Fame, Cray has recorded more than 20 albums with his latest titled, Robert Cray & Hi Rhythm. He traveled to Memphis to record the albums with friend and fellow Grammy winner Steve Jordan.

Considered one of the greatest films of all time, 2001: A Space Odyssey will be shown at Classic Movie Night on Friday, June 23, at the historic Jefferson Theatre in downtown Beaumont. Directed by the brilliant Stanley Kubrick, the film was released in 1968 and stars Keir Dullea and Gary Lockwood. The Foreign Cinema Series continues Monday, June 19, with the 2006 Spanish drama Volver at the historic Jefferson Theatre in downtown Beaumont. Directed by Pedro Almodóvar, the Spanish film stars Penélope Cruz as Raimunda, a working-class woman in Madrid along with her husband and 14-year-old daughter. The parents of Raimunda and her sister Paula perished in a fire years ago. After a murder and a family tragedy, Raimunda’s mother’s spirit materializes to help comfort them.
