Police didn’t find a burglar when they responded to a burglar alarm at Popeyes restaurant on Phelan Boulevard on Monday, Nov. 27, at 4:15 a.m., but they did find a fire, Beaumont Fire-Rescue Capt. Jimmy Blanchard said in a release.

Beaumont Police patrol officers notified the fire department, and the fire crews arrived within minutes, according to Blanchard.

“The fire crews made quick work of a fire in the kitchen of the restaurant,” Blanchard said. “There were no injuries.”

The business will be closed until repairs can be made.

An abandoned church in the 5100 block of Hunter Street caught fire Monday, Nov. 13, Beaumont Fire-Rescue Capt. Jimmy Blanchard said in a statement.

The church was located at the corner of Hunter Street and Jim Gilligan Way, near Lamar University.

On Nov. 11 at about 10:30 a.m., a fire was reported at Glen Oaks apartments, located at 520 Dowlen Road, Beaumont Fire-Rescue Capt. Jimmy Blanchard said in a statement on the department's Facebook page.

Just before 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 12, a fire was reported to Beaumont Fire-Rescue in the 4300 block of Galveston Street on Beaumont's north end, Beaumont Fire-Rescue Capt. Jimmy Blanchard said in a statement posted to the department's Facebook page.

On Monday, August 14, just after 6:30 a.m., Beaumont Fire-Rescue responded to the 5000 block of Maddox Drive due to reports of a house on fire, Capt. Jimmy Blanchard said in a release.

On Saturday, August 12 at around 12:15 p.m., Beaumont Fire dispatch started receiving calls that a house was on fire in the 4300 block of Ave A, in Beaumont’s south end, Capt. Jimmy Blanchard said in a release.

Sunday, July 23, around 1:30 a.m., Beaumont emergency services responded to a rail car leaking methyl chloride at the Union Pacific rail yard at 550 Lindbergh in Beaumont, Beaumont Fire Captain Brad Penisson said. HAZMAT crews responded and did determine a small leak was present. The HAZMAT crew corrected the leak by tightening a bolt on the rail car. No evacuations were performed or needed. No injuries came of the incident.

On March 18, shortly after 6:30 a.m., a vehicle drove through the front of a business in the 2800 Block of Eastex Freeway Service Road, Beaumont Fire and Rescue Capt. Jimmy Blanchard reported.

Wednesday, Jan. 18, just after 10:45 p.m. in the 1000 block of Cartwright Street, Beaumont Fire-Rescue received a call for a house fire, Beaumont Fire Department Captain Jimmy Blanchard reported.

Beaumont Fire-Rescue personnel responded and found a single story home heavily involved with fire. The homeowner was on scene and reported being asleep when he was awakened by the fire. The home sustained heavy fire damage.

After investigation, the fire was determined to be accidental, being caused by a clothes dryer.
