The National Weather Service is calling for a Flash Flood Watch for Southeast Texas and Southwest Louisiana until 6 p.m. Thursday, April 21. 

According to information from the weather service, at noon on Thursday radar had indicated up to three inches of rain had already fallen along Pine Island Bayou in Northwest Jefferson and Southwest Hardin counties with the activity moving slowly east across Beaumont. An additional one to three inches of rain is expected.

According to the Facebook page for the Kountze Police Department, counterfeit money is being circulated throughout the community, and police need assistance finding the perpetrators. Clerks of every local business are encouraged to check all money received carefully. If counterfeit bills are acquired, KPD suggests keeping the money and calling local authorities, as identifying the person(s) handling the fake currency is essential.

Indian Springs Special Needs Camp hosted an opening weekend deer hunt for disabled veterans and their caregivers Saturday, Nov. 1 – Sunday, Nov. 2, at the Indian Springs Campground in Kountze. The nonprofit, with the help of many volunteers, has been hosting a free hunting program for disabled veterans since 1998 as a way of giving back to men and women who unselfishly served in the armed forces protecting America’s freedoms, said Ronnie Stockholm, owner of the camp.

The new hike and bike trail will be the perfect outdoor place for the residents of Kountze as well as cyclists from across the area. Eager locals will be excited to know that the completion of the new trail, which runs parallel with North Highway 69, is nearing completion.
