Led by medalist Wenny Chang, the Lamar University women’s golf team won an unprecedented fourth straight Southland Conference championship on April 13.

The Cardinals led from wire-to-wire, finishing eight strokes ahead of runner-up Central Arkansas with with a score of 898 at Stonebridge Ranch Country Club in McKinney.

The honors have been pouring in for Lamar University junior running back Kade Harrington following a stellar 2015 campaign, but none were as special as the honor he received earlier in the week. A proclamation read at Beaumont City Hall declared Feb. 16, 2016, to be Kade Harrington Day.

Kade Harrington

Junior running back Kade Harrington has been named 2015 Southland Conference Player of the Year. In addition, nine other Cardinals received all-conference recognition, including five first-team selections, as voted on by the league head coaches and media relations directors. LU’s five first-team selections are the most since bringing back the program for the start of the 2010 season.

Lamar spirit teams

The Lamar University Spirit Team, consisting of the LU Cheer Squad and the LU Dance Team, brought home several awards after attending the Universal Cheerleaders Association and Universal Dance Association Collegiate Camp held July 10-13 at Texas State University in San Marcos.
