Body camera used by Lamar police

The Lamar University Police Department (LUPD) is expanding its use of body-worn cameras. Cameras are already in use across campus, according to a Lamar press release, from the campus security camera system to cameras in each LUPD patrol unit.

Lamar University is hosting a Study Abroad Fair on Tuesday, Oct. 13, in the Setzer Student Center, from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Students will learn about the opportunities and the benefits of studying abroad. Faculty members will be present to share about the many faculty-led programs available at LU. Students who studied abroad last year will also attend to share their experiences.

The Lamar Cardinals (2-1, 1-0) will face No. 22 Southeastern Louisiana (2-1, 1-0) on Thursday, Oct. 1, at 6 p.m. The game will be shown live on the American Sports Network. For Time Warner digital cable subscribers, it’s channel 1248. For those with satellite, it’s channel 413 on Dish and 681 on Direct TV.

Gilligan celebrates after 1,300th career win last February.

For the better part of 38 years, head coach Jim Gilligan has been the face of the Lamar University Baseball. The skipper has been around and influenced the program since his playing days back in 1967, but Gilligan has announced his plans to retire at the conclusion of the 2016 season.

Lamar University sophomore Alexus Aviles was named the Southland Conference Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for her efforts against UTEP and New Mexico State over the Labor Day weekend.

Lady Cards volleyball team

Junior Chelsea Grant of Killeen was named the Southland Conference’s Player of the Week on Aug. 31. Grant helped the Lady Cards win the Lamar Invitational volleyball tournament last weekend, defeating Texas Southern (3-1), UAB (3-0) and Marist (3-0).
