Little Cypress Elementary received two grants from International Paper’s IP Giving Foundation last week. The first is for a refill kit for expendable materials used in the second grade’s Saxon Phonics program, worth $4,374.92.

Students of Little Cypress Junior High art teacher, Donna Cole, recently won ribbons and a first place medal for artwork that they entered in the Houston Livestock and Rodeo Art Contest.

The work of Raeleigh Underwood earned a gold medal and is being exhibited at the show in Houston.

January is School Board Recognition Month and Little Cypress-Mauriceville CISD has joined other districts across the state to thank these local leaders for their dedication and willingness to serve as advocates for our students and public schools. As elected officials, they are the voice of their communities, serving first and foremost in the best interest of Texas school children.

The Little Cypress-Mauriceville High School Jazz Band is hosting a silent auction and dinner Tuesday, Dec. 20, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., at First Baptist Church Mauriceville, 11540 Texas Highway 12. Tickets for “Silent Night, Jazzy Night!” are $20 per person and must be purchased in advance.

A Little Cypress Junior High student brought an unloaded BB gun to class on Tuesday, Dec. 6. Staff retrieved the BB gun early in the morning.

Since "a BB gun is not classified as a firearm under federal law, no legal charges were brought against the student," LCM CISD Community Relations coordinator Sherry Combs said in a release.

However, Combs also said that LCM CISD will be "assign[ing] consequences to the student according to the student code of conduct."
