Book signing

Elmo Willard Branch Library, at 3590 East Lucas Drive, will be hosting a book signing on Saturday, Oct. 27 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Authors Tristan Jackson and Desmond Alverez, both Lamar University Alumni, will be signing and selling their individual books. Jackson’s "Dream the Impossible: a personal memoir" and Alverez’s "Chance You’re Begging for Trouble" will be available for $10 from their respective authors.

Arne Almquist

Arne Almquist of Union, Kentucky, has been selected to serve as dean of the Mary and John Gray Library, announced Lamar University Provost James Marquart. Almquist’s appointment follows a national search for new leadership for the position that is at the heart of the university’s academic endeavors, Marquart said.

The cooler temperatures are right around the corner, and beginning Oct. 5, the Miller Branch Library will present free “Music on the Patio” program for kids from toddlers up to 5-year-olds every Wednesday from 10:30-11:00 a.m. on the Miller Patio.

Enjoy finger plays, sing-a-longs, musical instruments, dance and so much more.

‘The Example’

The Port Arthur Public Library and the African American Cultural Society will host a screening of the historical fiction short film “The Example,” on Thursday, June 23, at the Port Arthur Library Gallery, 4615 Ninth Ave., Port Arthur, at 6 p.m. The event is free to the public. Children ages 13 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

Tai Ho, managing attorney with Lone Star Legal Aid, will be available on Friday, January 15 at 2 p.m. at the Elmo Willard Branch Library, located at 3590 East Lucas Drive in Beaumont. He will be available to answer questions on legal topics of interest to the community. Walk-ins are welcome and encouraged.

The R.C. Miller Library will host the “Sounds of Sharing” Tuesday, November 10, 2015 to celebrate the upcoming holiday season. Along with light refreshments, there will be musical performances by Lamar University professors Dr. Charlotte Mizener (harpist) and Dr. Gary Mizener (clarinetist). The two will be accompanied by Jennifer Shannon (flautist), Barbara Smith (harpist) and Rachel Clark (harpist).

Cameron Sutphin

The Theodore Johns Branch Library will host a free Concert on the Lawn featuring folk singer and guitar player Cameron Sutphin on Saturday, Oct. 10, beginning at 2 p.m. Organizers say bring lawn chairs, beach towels or blankets. Coolers are allowed, but no alcohol is permitted on city property.

On September 17, 2015, the Beaumont Public Library, in conjunction with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), will host a naturalization ceremony recognizing new candidates for U.S. citizenship at 10:00 a.m.  The ceremony will take place at the Main Library at 801 Pearl St.
