A tank fire in an industrial complex on Highland Ave. was caused by a lightning strike Sunday, May 10. 

Around 11:45 a.m. Beaumont Fire dispatch received a call about the tank fire. When the fire units arrived they noticed that the fire was coming from a vent towards the top of the tank. After cooling it with water it was decided to allow the fire to burn itself out. After roughly an hour and 15 minutes the fire was declared under control.

The Hardin County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of a Honey Island man who was killed by an apparent lightning strike Feb. 6, Sheriff Mark Davis said in a release.

On July 3, at approximately 4:16 PM, Beaumont Fire Rescue units responded to a structure fire reported at 890 Evergreen. When firefighters arrived they found a house with flames showing from one room. Firefighters were able to make a quick attack and confine the fire to one rear bedroom of the home. The occupants were able escape from the home without injury before firefighters arrived. The fire was caused by a lightning strike as a storm moved through the area.
