Monsignor Kelly Catholic High School has announced that freshmen Jianna Bajar, Caleb Granger, Eliza Jasani, Amari Rodgers and Luke Sodolak will represent Kelly at the Youth Leadership Southeast Texas Conference to be held Nov. 16 at Lamar Institute of Technology.


Teachers, students and parents are awaiting some sort of normalcy in their lives, which includes the start of the 2017-18 school year.

Beaumont Independent School District has a tentative goal of beginning school Monday, Sept. 11, but will host an emergency meeting Friday, Sept. 8, at the Administration Building (3395 Harrison Ave) at noon to make a final decision.

The MCM Eleganté Hotel is hoping a new concept will entice guests to order pizza in-house and also capitalize on sales opportunities outside the hotel.

Itza Pizza, which opened Saturday, April 1, is serving hotel guests, dine-in customers, and delivering to a whole new market through the Waitr app.

Located inside Hemmingway’s Café, Itza Pizza sold over 300 pizzas in its first week, said Matt Peterson, food and beverage director at the MCM Eleganté.

The concept is the brainchild of hotel GM Steve McGaha.


Entergy Texas announced a $600,000 workforce development initiative Monday, March 13 at Edison Plaza in Beaumont with several important dignitaries in attendance including Entergy Texas CEO Sallie Rainer and Texas Workforce Commissioner Representing Employees Ruth Hughs.


Four cadets training as first responders received recognition and tuition scholarships from the Officer Bryan Hebert Memorial Foundation for their education at the Lamar Institute of Technology (LIT) Regional Police Academy.

Scholarships are awarded to qualified candidates seeking a career in law enforcement.

The Officer Bryan Hebert Memorial Scholarship is given in memory of Beaumont Police Officer Bryan Mitchell Hebert, who was killed in the line of duty on Friday, July 8, 2011.


Brian Sattler, director of public relations at Lamar University since 1989 and resident of Bridge City, was honored with the university’s 2016 Julie & Ben Rogers Community Service Award at a Dec. 6 program in the University Event Center of the Mary and John Gray Library.

The Rogers family established the award in 1979 to encourage Lamar University faculty and staff to volunteer their service and talents to the community.
