The Lamar Institute of Technology Office of Workforce Training and Continuing Education will hold an instructor recruiting fair from 4 to 8 p.m. on July 17. The event will be at the Multi-Purpose Center at 802 E. Lavaca in Beaumont. The department is looking for instructors to teach in several areas, including health sciences, pharmacy technology, OSHA, supervision, welding, entrepreneurship, leadership, real estate and public safety as well as others.

Rod Carroll signs endowment

Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Rod Carroll signed a permanent endowment named in his honor at Lamar Institute of Technology May 17 in the school’s Multi-Purpose Center.

The endowment was created with funds donated to the LIT Foundation, and will help provide cadets in LIT’s Regional Police Academy with the opportunity to begin or continue their education.

The endowment recognizes his many contributions to the citizens of Southeast Texas.

The Lamar University Jack Brooks Chair in Government and Public Service will focus on substance abuse when it hosts the 2013 Brooks Conference Thursday, April 18.

Activities will begin at 7:30 a.m. in the Lamar Institute of Technology Multi-Purpose Center, at Jimmy Simmons Boulevard and East Lavaca. 

Dawn Mathis of the Drug Enforcement Administration in Houston will be the keynote speaker for a luncheon from noon to 1:15 p.m. Other guest speakers include Shane Howard, Jefferson County tax assessor-collector.

Lamar Institute of Technology announced the president's and vice president’s lists for the Fall 2012 semester. For students to be included on the President’s List, they must have earned a 4.0 GPA for the semester. Students on the Vice President’s List must have earned a 3.40 to 3.99 GPA for the semester.
