Orange police officers were dispatched to the Texas Travel Information Center on Interstate 10 on Dec. 29 at about 4:45 a.m. concerning a major accident.

When officers arrived, they found a white 2014 Chevrolet truck driven by a 41-year-old Sulphur man had collided with two parked vehicles. The first vehicle struck was a 2014 Toyota Corolla occupied by two women, ages 37 and 38, from Lockhart, Texas. The 37-year-old was transported to St. Elizabeth via ambulance, while the 38-year-old was flown to the hospital.

A Jefferson County Sherriff’s Deputy gave a 27-year-old woman from Richmond an early Christmas gift the morning of Monday, Dec. 24. When the deputy was “working radar” on Interstate 10 near Boyt Road he clocked a woman speeding. When he lit up his lights and siren, the woman kept on driving, though, she didn't try to speed up and flee, she just didn't stop. Law enforcement units from several agencies came to assist. The woman finally pulled over at I-10 and Major Drive.

A 21-year-old Mexican national living in Liberty, Texas, has been indicted and charged with federal violations in the Eastern District of Texas, announced U.S. Attorney Joseph D. Brown Sept. 5.

Juan Carlos Saucedo-Meza was indicted by a federal grand jury and charged with kidnapping.

June 26, 2018, the Beaumont Police Department Person’s Unit began assisting with a Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office (CPSO) homicide investigation in Louisiana. Two Beaumont residents, Ronald Gene McLain, 57, and Kenneth Dawayne Williams, 32, were identified as murder suspects in the CPSO investigation, and warrants were issued for their arrest. BPD detectives assisted CPSO with the investigation for several days. June 29, McLain was arrested in Aransas Pass, Texas, and July 3, Williams turned himself in at the Beaumont Police Department.

With a vote of 6-3 in Murphy v. National Collegiate Athletic Association on May 14, the United States Supreme Court determined that the federal ban on sports betting as established by the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act of 1992 (PASPA) is unconstitutional, paving the way for the legalization of sports betting in all 50 states.

The American Gaming Association estimates that Americans illegally wager about $150 billion on sports each year, but don’t expect Texas to “say yes” anytime soon.

One man was killed and another was injured following a head-on crash Feb. 5 on I-10 westbound about a mile east of the community of Roanoke, Louisiana State Police Sgt. James Anderson said in a release.

On Nov. 18, at about 6:15 p.m., the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Troopers attempted to conduct a traffic on I-10 in Orange County when the driver of a Honda motorcycle failed to stop for troopers.
