In the early morning hours of Thursday, Jan. 4, Beaumont police responded to more than 30 auto burglaries in the city’s West End. In response, officers on the Midnight Patrol conducted numerous special attentions at apartment complexes and neighborhoods along Major Drive.

Beaumont City Council approved rezoning

Tuesday, Feb. 28, Beaumont City Council approved a resolution of support for establishing a new, municipal management district that could lead to residential and retail development on property at the corner of Dowlen and Delaware. The council also approved rezoning that will lead to the development of a new shopping center and residential area on Major Drive near Village Drive.

This morning around 9:50 a.m., Jefferson County Sheriff's deputies stopped a traffic violator on I-10 west bound near Major Drive, Capt. Crystal Holmes said in a release. The vehicle was a 2011 Hyundai Santa Fe SUV, driven by a Hispanic male from the valley.

The new section of Major Drive traveling under I-10 opened Tuesday, Nov. 22.

"We're really glad that we were able to get this opened up before the holiday season," said TxDOT PIO Sarah Dupre. "The whole point of this project was to make that area safer and to help out with the congestion in that area."

The 21-year-old passenger of a truck traveling down Major Drive in Beaumont late Saturday morning shot himself accidentally while handling a revolver and died as a result, reports the Beaumont Police Department.

The occupants of a home severely damaged by a fire in the 300 block of Major Drive on June 1 escaped the blaze without injury, reports Beaumont Fire-Rescue.

A two-vehicle collision in Beaumont's west end on Friday, Sept. 18, 2015 resulted in the death of a Port Arthur resident.

According to a press release from the City of Beaumont, just before 11 p.m. Friday, Beaumont PD officers responded to a collision at the intersection of Major Drive and Highway 105. Upon arrival, it is reported two white Ford F-150 trucks were resting against the traffic light pole in the intersection.

Detectives with the Beaumont Police Department are working to determine the identity of two men responsible for killing a clerk during a robbery attempt at a west end convenience store, BPD reports.

At about 12:17 a.m. on April 29, patrol officers responded to a holdup alarm at the Pick N Shop located in the 800 block of S. Major, according to a news release from BPD. When officers arrived, they discovered the 52-year-old clerk dead from an apparent gunshot wound.

The  Beaumont Fire Department Dive Team recovers a body from the LNVA canal.

Investigators are awaiting preliminary autopsy results to determine the cause and manner of death after a body was found floating in the LNVA Canal.
