Memorial Day

The Vidor Lions Club is having an evening service this year at the Vidor Lions Club Veterans Park “Fields of Freedom.”

There will be snacks and refreshments starting at 7 p.m.  At 8 p.m., Boy Scouts of American Troop 220 will dedicate the new eternal flame, followed by a candlelight vigil, and the playing of taps.

Weather permitting, a lovely release of sky lanterns will conclude the service.

Honor and remember the veterans who have fought and died for our freedom with Forest Lawn Funeral Home on May 30.

The funeral home is hosting its annual Memorial Day Observance Service on Monday at 4955 Pine St. in Beaumont, the corner of Lucas and Pine. The service will begin at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel.

Detectives have released the name of two suspects involved in the Memorial Day weekend shootings at Magnolia Park.

Michael Jason Green, 34, of Beaumont is in the county jail facing two counts of capital murder and one count of aggravated assault. Each capital murder charge carries a $5 million bond and the aggravated assault charge carries a $100,000 bond.

Memorial Day has passed, but just one day of recognition does not do enough to express the debt of gratitude owed to those men and women who lost their lives serving our country in its time of need.

A boating accident on the Angelina River that took two lives over the Memorial Day weekend was one of many boating-related fatalities over a three-day span.

“Texas game wardens investigated seven drowning deaths and another four boating-related fatalities over what proved to be one of the state’s deadliest Memorial Day weekends,” says Mike Cox with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.

Beaumont – Forest Lawn Memorial Park and Funeral Home in Beaumont invites the public to a Memorial Day Salute on Monday, May 27 starting at 10 a.m. 4955 Pine Street in Beaumont. The Southeast Texas Veterans Service Group will present the colors at the ceremony honoring fallen soldiers in all branches of the armed services. Community leaders and veterans will speak at the event with special music by Deanetta Stark.
