Police in Vidor arrested a woman May 12 for possession of a controlled substance after reportedly finding three liquid-filled syringes believed to contain methamphetmine, a tablet of suspected ecstasy and other drugs during a traffic stop, according to Vidor Police Department Officer Matthew Custer.

The Alcohol & Drug Abuse Council of Deep East Texas is seeing a rise in abuse of meth, opiates and synthetic marijuana in the area.

Kara Wharton, a licensed chemical dependency counselor and team leader at the Beaumont office of the Alcohol & Drug Abuse Council of Deep East Texas (ADACDET), said the non-profit organization services around 90-100 clients a month and the three aforementioned problems are the most common addictions seen.

“The numbers are growing,” Wharton said. “In this area, it’s methamphetamine” that’s most abused.

Police are charging a teen accused of shoplifting at Vidor Walmart on April 17 with criminal mischief for destroying store property and with multiple drug charges, including bringing a prohibited substance into a correctional facility, reports Sgt. Lee Brading. 

According to Brading's report pertaining to the incident, police were dispatched to Walmart on Main Street at about 9 a.m. in reference to a man cutting open boxes at the store. Loss prevention staff described the suspect as dressed in black and riding a mobility scooter.

On April 10 at about 10:30 p.m., Liberty County Sheriff's Office deputies in the Criminal Interdiction Unit, the Liberty County Sheriff's Office SWAT Team, and the Liberty County District Attorney's Office Gang Unit executed a Narcotic Search Warrant at a residence located on County Road 2701 in Rye, Texas, Sheriff Bobby Rader said in a statement.

While working a criminal interdiction assignment, on April 10 at about 12:30 a.m., Pinehurst Police Officer Kevin Norton reportedly arrested a 33-year-old woman for traffic offenses, and discovered drug parapehernalia and what appeared to be methamphetamine in her possession, reports Chief Fred Hanauer.

A 35-year-old Kirbyville man with a lengthy criminal history has been sentenced to federal prison for drug trafficking violations in the Eastern District of Texas, announced Acting U.S. Attorney Brit Featherston on March 31.

McGee Lamar Falcon pleaded guilty on Oct. 16, 2016, to conspiracy to distribute and possess methamphetamine and was sentenced Friday to 204 months in federal prison by U.S. District Judge Marcia A. Crone.

Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a Beaumont man March 13 who is a suspect in multiple burglaries, and recovered 15 grams of methamphetamine during the subsequent investigation, reports Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Captain Crystal Holmes.

According to a news release from Holmes, at about 2:30 p.m., deputies stopped a black Mitsubishi matching the description of a vehicle involved in several Beaumont burglaries highlighted on Crimestoppers.

On Jan. 27, at about 1:15 p.m., Beaumont Police Department detectives with the narcotics unit executed a search and arrest warrant at a residence in the 3800 block of West Lynwood, BPD PIO Haley Morrow reported.
