With an increase in the use of motorcycles in the last decade, motorcycle safety and awareness is of great concern to riders and law enforcement. Motorcycle operators are encouraged to wear safety gear at all times and to drive defensively, while car and truck drivers are cautioned to watch out for the two-wheeled machines motoring along the highways and byways along with them.

A collision involving two motorcycles resulted in injuries sending both drivers to the hospital April 24, Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Stephanie Davis reported Sunday.

According to Davis, DPS received a report of a one-vehicle crash on Interstate 10 near Taylor's Bayou in Jefferson County at approximately 1:30 p.m., but discovered upon arrival that the crash actually involved two separate motorcycles.

A 28-year-old Vidor man died while attempting to evade police officers on a motorcycle.

At 11:50 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 6, officers attempted to stop the driver of a 2002 Yamaha motorcycle in the area of Center and Ashley. The driver refused to stop and led officers on a brief pursuit, traveling east on the IH-10 Service Road, running  the red light at MLK and striking a 2005 tan Yukon.

A Newton County motorcycle accident claimed the life of a Vidor man on July 31, reports the Texas Department of Public Safety.

According to a news release from Trooper Stephanie Davis, at approximately 8:00 p.m. that evening, 37-year-old Henry McIntyre of Vidor was traveling westbound on FM 1004 on his 1996 Honda motorcycle. As the vehicle went into a curve on FM 1004 near CR 3089 in Newton County, McIntyre reportedly lost control of the motorcycle and was ejected.
