Mural at Atria Collier Park honoring veterans

When Engage Life Director Cheri Courts came to work for Atria Collier Park three years ago and saw the wall honoring veterans, she immediately wanted to paint a mural for these men and women that put their lives on the line to make sure we could keep our freedom.

Atria Collier Park is an assisted living community in Beaumont.

“To me this was how we as a community could honor and say ‘thank you’ to all of our veterans,” said Courts, who has an extensive background in art.

Pecos artist Sally Chandler guided eighth graders from the Odom Academy of Beaumont as they painted a 13-foot-long, 6-foot high mural on the wall of the Art Museum of Southeast Texas (AMSET) Tuesday, April 16.

“They’re doing such a good job,” Chandler said. “Yesterday, we spent most of the day talking about ‘The Lost World’ (Chandler’s exhibit). There are 18 (children) and they each have their own space and each have their own stories.”
