Demetrius Bernard Glenn

According to the Jefferson County District Attorney's office, Demetrius Bernard Glenn, 22, of Port Arthur pled guilty to murder on Monday, November 9, 2015, stemming from a June 6, 2013 double homicide in Port Arthur. In accordance with a plea agreement reached with prosecutors, Glenn was sentenced to 50 years in prison.

At the conclusion of a bond hearing punctuated by an eruption of emotion, including a declaration of love from the suspect to his mother and a tearful outburst from the deceased victim’s family, Criminal District Court Judge John Stevens set a $500,000 bond for David Carl Smith, who was extradited from the Netherlands to face murder charges in Jefferson County.

On September 29, 2015, Port Arthur police were dispatched to 4200 Gulfway in reference to a man down. Subsequent investigation revealed the man, identified as 42 year old Port Arthur resident Michael Paul Blanchard, had been murdered.

This Sunday, October 4, 2015 at 9 p.m., the Discovery Channel will be airing the program “On The Case” with Paula Zahn, which focuses on victims in murder cases.

One of the cases featured will be the murder of Beaumont police officer Paul Hulsey on March 22, 1988. This case led officers to locate and capture the serial killer responsible for Hulsey’s murder. He was tried, convicted and sentenced to death. His execution was carried out in Texas on December 9, 1997.
