A 24-year-old Mexico native was sentenced to prison in Jefferson County Feb. 29 for the murder of 25-year-old Port Arthur resident Denzel Washington. Jose Julio Esquivel was sentenced to 40 years for Washington’s murder, 20 years for a separate aggravated assault and 20 years for burglary of a habitation to run concurrently.

Investigators have arrested former Port Arthur police officer Chris Jeffries' fiancée, 47-year-old Ethel Marie Eulian, for murder after finding Jeffries' dead from gunshot wounds inside his home on Feb. 21, Port Arthur Police Department (PAPD) Deputy Chief Raymond Clark reports.

Police in Port Arthur are investigating a homicide of a former Port Arthur Police Department (PAPD) officer found apparently shot to death in his home Feb. 21. They have already identified a "person of interest" they believe was involved in the shooting, the victim's live-in fiancée.

Emotions ran high as family and friends of murder victim Marcus “Big Country” Senegal waited for an outcome in the trial of a 22-year-old man accused of the crime alongside the defendant’s supporters, who showed up in numbers the first week of December. After days of testimony, it took roughly four hours Dec. 6 for the jury to convict defendant Keenan “Cheese” Anderson on one count of murder.

The Texas Department of Public Safety and the Texas Ranger Unsolved Crimes Investigation Team are asking for the public's help in solving the 1982 murder of Monica "Christie" Wilson in Liberty, Texas. 

According to a press release, as part of a public awareness program launched last month, DPS is featuring one unsolved case each month in an effort to generate new investigative leads and bring added attention to unresolved or "cold cases" across the state.

According to the Jefferson County District Attorney's office, Demetrius Bernard Glenn, 22, of Port Arthur pled guilty to murder on Monday, November 9, 2015, stemming from a June 6, 2013 double homicide in Port Arthur. In accordance with a plea agreement reached with prosecutors, Glenn was sentenced to 50 years in prison.

At the conclusion of a bond hearing punctuated by an eruption of emotion, including a declaration of love from the suspect to his mother and a tearful outburst from the deceased victim’s family, Criminal District Court Judge John Stevens set a $500,000 bond for David Carl Smith, who was extradited from the Netherlands to face murder charges in Jefferson County.
