Diesel fuel spilled on US 96 near the Neches River Bridge Nov. 9 around 9:45 a.m. when a tire blew on a trailer, Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. Stephanie Davis said in a release.

Texas Department of Transportation staff spoke at Beaumont City Council on Oct. 17 to update city leaders on the progress of widening projects totaling $650 million, including the ongoing Neches River Bridge construction.

At approximately 8 a.m., the Texas Department of Public Safety received a report of a multiple vehicle crash on Interstate 10, near the Neches River bridge, in Orange County.

Initial reports indicated that a Honda Civic was traveling westbound  in the inside lane on Interstate 10 followed by a Kia passenger vehicle.  Due to normal morning traffic, both vehicles began to slow down when the Kia was rear-ended by a Chevrolet pickup truck.  The impact of the collision caused the Kia to rear-end the Honda.

Feb. 26 about 1:15 p.m., the Texas Department of Public Safety responded to an eight vehicle crash on Interstate 10 in Orange County. The crash occurred on the Neches River Bridge.

The Texas Department of Transportation has some slightly bad news for nighttime travelers but great news for morning commuters journeying into downtown Beaumont from Orange County.

A Lake Charles man attempting to escape his vehicle after an auto accident fell off of the Neches River/Purple Heart Bridge to his death on Dec. 5, reports the Orange County Sheriff's Office.

UPDATE: The Purple Heart Memorial Bridge over the Neches River in Beaumont was open as of 1:15 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2014, according to a Beaumont Emergency Management Department press release. The city hopes the bridge will stay passable; however, highways in Beaumont are becoming heavily iced.

Drivers crossing the Neches River Bridge Tuesday morning, July 16, were in caught in a brief haze of smoke and fire after an 18-wheeler’s braking system malfunctioned.

Contract bridge crews are preparing for this weekend’s traffic switch on the Neches River bridge (Purple Heart Memorial), according to a press release from The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT). TXDOT says crews will begin the process of shifting eastbound traffic to the westbound bridge this evening, Friday, March 22, at 9 p.m. The process is expected to take two days, stretching into the weekend.

Monday, Jan. 21 – Be prepared for some delays if you are traveling westbound to Beaumont on Interstate 10 today. According to TxDOT spokesperson Marc Shepherd, the westbound left lane between Rose City and Beaumont will be closed for road work being done on the Neches River Bridge, also known as the Purple Heart Memorial Bridge, today and possibly Tuesday, Jan. 22.
