Southeast Texans celebrated our nation’s protectors during Veterans Day ceremonies across the area on Nov. 11. Community members and leaders joined veterans and their loved ones throughout the Golden Triangle to honor those who have served in the United States Armed Forces.

UPDATE: A jury of seven men and five women in Judge John Stevens' court today sentenced Rockline George Kennedy, 65, to 18 years in prison and a $10,000 fine for the Jan. 26 intoxication manslaughter of 18-year-old Nederland High School student Kristin Paris.

Paris's family addressed Kennedy directly at the sentencing. Her father said, "I think you are the biggest piece of s**t I have ever met in my life, and I hope you die."

The City of Nederland will hold a groundbreaking ceremony on the property adjacent to Nederland City Hall at 207 N. 12th St. on Monday, July 27, at 10 a.m. for the Nederland Veterans’ Park being constructed in the city.

First Baptist Church in Nederland is holding what they are touting as the “largest Disaster Relief Expo in the state of Texas” on April 18 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m., and the public is invited to attend to learn about disaster relief across the state.

FBC Pastor Jason Burden says the event will be educational and entertaining for all.
