After pulling the trigger in two fatal shootings in less than a year’s time while sworn to protect and serve as an officer of the Beaumont Police Department, Chase Welch exited the ranks of the local law enforcement agency early in 2017. San Jacinto County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that he is now under their employ, but he was not in the office Wednesday, Aug. 9, allegedly because he was under review for involvement in yet another officer-involved shooting at his new job.

Liberty Police made two arrests in reference to a late night assault that took place on June 30, according to a news release from the department. Police responded to the 5000 block of Briar Grove in the Ridgewood subdivision shortly after 1 a.m. in reference to an assault.

Beaumont’s Police Chief Jimmy Singletary swore four more officers into the department’s ranks during a ceremony at the downtown station June 9.

Assistant Chief Jim Clay opened the ceremony, thanking council members Virginia Jordan, Robin Mouton and Gethrel “Get” Williams-Wright for attending the swearing-in event and showing support for the new officers and their families.

The city of Port Arthur and the Port Arthur Police Department have placed two officers on administrative leave "pending the results of an adminstrative investigation," city spokesperspon Risa Carpenter revealed in a news release Monday, May 15. No other details have been released.

On March 29, the Beaumont Police Department announced it has initiated a criminal and internal investigation of an officer in the department. According to Sgt. Cody Guedry, the officer is on administrative leave with pay, which is "standard procedure."

Shouts of volunteers of Some Other Place, who were handing out gifts to local family's during the charity's Christmas giveaway Dec. 22, rang out as Officer Todd Jackson of the Beaumont Police Department (BPD) walked through the door of the non-profit's storage warehouse after he found and returned 13 bicycles that had been stolen from the facility overnight.

On the heels of the victim’s autopsy report, finalized Dec. 2, a Jefferson County grand jury has elected not to pursue charges against a Beaumont police officer involved in shooting a man outside a bar in October.

According to information from the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office, on Dec. 7 the grand jury “declined to take action in the officer involved shooting of Chaz York, ruling it to be justified.”

The Beaumont Police Department (BPD) promoted two officers to the rank of sergeant during a ceremony Nov. 29. Officers Christopher Brinkmeyer and Aaron Pickering received promotions after years of service in law enforcement.
