Family and friends of fallen Beaumont police officers joined the department and a community of first responders at a ceremony at the downtown police station May 11 to honor those killed in the line of duty.

Uniformed officers escorted family members of fallen officers to their seats in the front rows near the steps leading up to the memorial star displaying badges emblazoned with the names of 17 officers killed while protecting and serving the populace.

The Beaumont Police Department (BPD) has a new state-of-the-art training tool available to officers from all area agencies – a simulation system that offers exercises in use of force and tactical judgment.

In another recent attack against law enforcement officers, an assailant carrying an assault rifle and a pistol, with a backup assault rifle reportedly hidden in his car, shot and killed three police officers and wounded three others in Baton Rouge on July 17 before he was taken down.

Friday, Jan. 15,  the Beaumont Police Department promoted Officer John Kenna to the rank of sergeant. Officer Kenna has served as a patrol officer with Beaumont PD for seven years.
