U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Texas John M. Bales announced Tuesday, Sept. 6, that a now former Orange County Sheriff’s Office Deputy has pleaded guilty to being part of a scheme to collect hundreds of thousands of dollars in ill-gotten HUD housing proceeds in Jefferson County.

Tuesday, 47-year-old Chad Hogan pleaded guilty to charges of money laundering before U.S. Magistrate Judge Keith Giblin for his role in the crime.

Workers on a boat under Veterans Memorial Bridge in Orange County recovered the body of a 54-year-old woman Aug. 2, reports the Orange County Sheriff's Office. 

According to a news release from OCSO, deputies responded to a call for assistance on a welfare concern at the bridge at approximately 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday. When deputies arrived, they were advised a white female had been rescued from the water by workers that had been in a boat working under the bridge.

According to the Orange County Sheriff's Office Facebook page, the office has had reports of an older, heavyset, white male with a white beard who is driving a white van stopping children to tell them he has a sick puppy in the back of the van. The 2006 white van has a white rack on top with Ohio license plates. He has most recently been in the downtown Orange area on John Street and possibly the Mauriceville area.
