Orange County Commissioners have been discussing the county budget in a series of workshops over the last two weeks. Commissioners and staff are going over the budget with a fine-tooth comb to try to minimize expenses. In their latest meeting Wednesday, June 26, commissioners discussed pending negotiations with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office Employee Union.

According to a news release from the Orange County Sheriff's Office, an armed homeowner confronted two people he caught attempting to burglarize his home.

Close to 1800 people showed up to Claiborne West Park on Friday, June 14 to take part in the 19th Annual Cops and Kids event for Orange County. Police officers, sheriff’s deputies, state troopers, firemen and numerous people representing other emergency and safety services participated to make the event a huge success.

Spartanburg, South Carolina County deputies arrested Curtis Nathaniel Bullman, 43, on a fugitive warrant Monday, June 3 related to an aggravated sexual assault charge in Texas, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.

The Texas Transportation Commission approved approximately $400,000 for improvements to the Orange County Airport at a May meeting.

Orange County Commissioners have unanimously approved a resolution to nominate International Paper as a double jumbo enterprise project and entered into a contract with iDocket.com for the company to provide public, fee-based access to records of the district and county clerk offices.

Jonathan Ferguson with Ryan LLC, a consulting firm assisting International Paper with the double jumbo enterprise project, approached the podium at the Commissioners Court meeting Monday, May 20, to explain the request for nomination.

The man whose body was discovered on the Orange County side of the Neches River on May 5 has been identified as Desmond Gerard O’Hara of Beaumont, according to a news release from the Orange County Sheriff’s Department. O’Hara, 35-year-old black male, was reported missing by his family to Beaumont Police Department on Feb. 16, 2013.

At their meeting Tuesday, May 9, the Orange City Council swore in two new members who are taking over the council seats for Districts 2 and 4.

Tommy Ferguson unseated District 2 incumbent Cullin Smith with the final vote tally standing at 353 to 224. Mary McKenna overtook incumbent Annette Pernell in a close race, winning by four votes with a tally of 148 to 144. At-large Councilman Bill Mello ran unopposed and joined the two newcomers at the swearing in Tuesday. A total of 882 ballots were cast.

At their special court session scheduled Monday, May 6, commissioners approved a resolution appointing County Judge Carl Thibodeaux as the Orange County representative and negotiator with the Gulf Coast Community Protection and Recovery District Inc.

Orange and Jefferson county sheriff's offices are conducting a death investigation after a body was discovered in the Neches River near the Purple Heart Memorial Bridge over the Neches River over the weekend.
