An Orange resident apparently struck by a train suffered serious injuries Nov. 12, reports the Orange Police Department (OPD). 

According to a news release from OPD, dispatch received a call from the Union Pacific Railroad shortly after 1 a.m. on Nov. 12 reporting a train had struck an individual they said was lying on the railroad tracks. Officer arrived at the scene minutes later and discovered a 32-year-old man lying on the west side of the tracks with serious injuries.

Friends of the Orange Depot (FOOD) have been working diligently for years to raise funds for the restoration of the historic Southern Pacific Train Depot in Orange and could soon see their efforts come to fruition as planners project an open house likely in the first quarter of 2017.

During this year’s fundraising gala, Denim and Diamonds, FOOD is raising funds for exhibits to display in the new museum at the depot.

Saturday, Nov. 5, Shangri La Gardens invites the community to visit the largest scarecrow festival in Texas, displaying over 70 hand-crafted scarecrows throughout the gardens. This event is their eighth annual Autumn Fair, and the scarecrows are displayed throughout each October.

Festivities are scheduled for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Entry is free for Stark Cultural Members, adults (age 18-64) are $8, seniors (age 65 and up) are $5, students (with current ID) are $5, youth (age 10-17) are $5, children (age 4-9) are $2.00, and toddlers (age 3 and under) are free.

In an statement from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO) and Sheriff Keith Merritt, the sheriff said he and his staff are saddened to announce the loss of a valuable member of the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. Captain Tom Ray, 46, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday morning, Oct. 23, of a possible heart attack.

ORANGE, From Claybar Funeral Home: Master Sergeant Timothy John Hankins, 40, of Orange, Texas, passed away on October 8, 2016, while stationed at McDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, October 16, 2016, at First Nazarene Church in Orange. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Orange.

A reception will be held at West Orange Community Center following the burial.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Saturday, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.

Police in Orange are investigating a deadly auto-pedestrian accident that claimed the life of an Ohio resident Oct. 9, Orange Police Department Lt. Garrold Keaton reports. 

According to a news release, officers were dispatched to the area of 2080 I-10 North Service Road shortly after 10 p.m. in reference to an auto-pedestrian traffic accident. Acadian Ambulance Service was called to the scene, but were unable to resuscitate the 44-year-old male victim, who had been struck by a vehicle still on the scene.
