An Orange man suffered serious head injuries after a high speed motorcycle crash Wednesday, Nov. 16, Sergeant Stephanie Davis of the Texas Department of Public Safety said in a release.

A one vehicle motorcycle crash on Hoo Hoo Road near Highway 62 in Orange County was reported on Nov. 16 at 8:40 p.m.

The Suzuki motorcycle was traveling westbound on Hoo Hoo Road when the motorcyclist entered a curve at a high rate of speed and lost control, skidding off the roadway. The motorcycle struck a concrete culvert and landed in a ditch.

Pinehurst Police Chief Fred Hanauer is asking the community to come together in support of his friend Chuck Peet of Orange who is fighting colon cancer and other serious afflictions by donating to a GoFundMe account the chief has set up to assist Peet's family with medical expenses and other necessities.

Two teachers trying to break up a fight between two 10-year-olds at Mauriceville Elementary School in Orange were assaulted by one of the students involved in the altercation, reports the Orange County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO).

An Orange resident apparently struck by a train suffered serious injuries Nov. 12, reports the Orange Police Department (OPD). 

According to a news release from OPD, dispatch received a call from the Union Pacific Railroad shortly after 1 a.m. on Nov. 12 reporting a train had struck an individual they said was lying on the railroad tracks. Officer arrived at the scene minutes later and discovered a 32-year-old man lying on the west side of the tracks with serious injuries.

Southern Pacific Train Depot

Friends of the Orange Depot (FOOD) have been working diligently for years to raise funds for the restoration of the historic Southern Pacific Train Depot in Orange and could soon see their efforts come to fruition as planners project an open house likely in the first quarter of 2017.

During this year’s fundraising gala, Denim and Diamonds, FOOD is raising funds for exhibits to display in the new museum at the depot.

Saturday, Nov. 5, Shangri La Gardens invites the community to visit the largest scarecrow festival in Texas, displaying over 70 hand-crafted scarecrows throughout the gardens. This event is their eighth annual Autumn Fair, and the scarecrows are displayed throughout each October.

Festivities are scheduled for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Entry is free for Stark Cultural Members, adults (age 18-64) are $8, seniors (age 65 and up) are $5, students (with current ID) are $5, youth (age 10-17) are $5, children (age 4-9) are $2.00, and toddlers (age 3 and under) are free.
