Paying tribute to the fallen heroes whose sacrifices paved the way for America’s freedom and who have given their lives to protect this nation and its citizens is important to Southeast Texans as evidenced by the many Memorial Day community celebrations across the area commemorating those brave souls.

The Orange Police Department responded to a call of a shooting on Monday, Feb. 11 just before 6 p.m in the 900 block of Cooper. Upon their arrival, officers found an 8-year-old suffering from a gunshot wound to her shoulder. 

Statements given to law enforcement said the child was shot by a 4-year-old male with a handgun. The boy was not initially located at the scene but was found in a nearby vehicle. The handgun wasn't located.

Police in Vidor have arrested the same convicted felon for evading arrest and possession of drugs and firearms for the second time in two months, reports Vidor Police Department (VPD) Chief Rod Carroll. Officers arrested Branden Aaron Holeman, 39, of Orange County, on Feb. 2 following a previous arrest on similar charges, still pending, on Dec. 12.

Pinehurst Police Department are investigating a hit-and-run after discovering the victim, 40-year-old Black male Jonathan Sibley of Orange, laying on the side of the roadway with head injuries and bleeding profusely in the 3100 block of W. Park in Pinehurst on Saturday, Jan. 5. Acadian Ambulance and first responders from the Pinehurst Volunteer Fire Department cared for Sibley before he was transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont and then to Memorial Herman Hospital in Houston where he is listed in serious stable condition.

Due to the recent rain Orange County is offering free sandbags at three locations. The first location is at 10375 N. Hwy 87 in Orange, the second is at 2505 W. Roundbunch (FM 1442) in Bridge City and the third is at 345 Claiborne St. in Vidor. Those picking up sandbags are asked to bring their own shovel.

Orange County Sherriff’s Office encourages citizens to monitor lake, river and flood stage levels at www.setxasrain.org. 

Finally OCSO asked for citizen’s to be safe and “Turn around and don’t drown.”

An Orange woman was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and parole violation the night of Dec. 29, 2018.

Orange police officers were dispatched to the Texas Travel Information Center on Interstate 10 on Dec. 29 at about 4:45 a.m. concerning a major accident.

When officers arrived, they found a white 2014 Chevrolet truck driven by a 41-year-old Sulphur man had collided with two parked vehicles. The first vehicle struck was a 2014 Toyota Corolla occupied by two women, ages 37 and 38, from Lockhart, Texas. The 37-year-old was transported to St. Elizabeth via ambulance, while the 38-year-old was flown to the hospital.

Following an investigation by The Examiner and through the efforts of law enforcers from probation officers to prosecutors, a convicted counterfeiter and registered sex offender who molested an 11-year-old girl and who has failed multiple times to comply with sex offender registry rules has been sentenced to 6 years in prison for violating the terms of his felony probation.

As part of a joint investigation, officers with the Orange Police Department and Orange County Sheriff’s Department executed three search warrants on Oct. 23 in the city of Orange, all related to gambling. The warrants were executed at convenience stores located at 1402 and 1415 16th St. and 3118 Edgar Brown. 

Two arrests followed:  Milkha Singh was arrested for engaging in organized criminal activity, gambling and owns both locations on 16th Street.

On Oct. 19 at 2:18 a.m. the Orange Police Department responded to the area of Hwy 1130 and S.Teal in reference to a white female in the roadway.

Officers arrived and discovered a deceased white female with trauma to her body. She was identified as Lisa Ann Lee. The circumstances of this death are under investigation.
