The Better Business Bureau serving Southeast Texas says that that protecting your identity is largely in your own hands. And here’s the first rule: If you don’t need it, destroy it.

The BBB will help you do that.

Saturday, April 28, from 9-11:30 a.m. at Parkdale Mall in Beaumont, BBB SETX will host ShredFest. The free event will provide on-site document shredding and tips to protect your identity.

ShredFest is sponsored by Star Graphics, Bill Clark Pest Control, Neches Credit Union, Armour Shred, Chick-fil-A and Sparklets Water

Macy’s, Inc. announced Wednesday, Jan. 4, that it would be closing 68 of its stores in a series of actions to streamline its store portfolio, intensify cost efficiency efforts and execute its real estate strategy.

The Beaumont location is included in these closings. The Parkdale Mall location is 171,000 square feet, opened in 2002, and employs 67 associates. According to Macy’s spokesperson Melissa Goff, the final clearance sale began on Monday, Jan. 9, and will run 10 to 12 weeks.

A local man is concerned with the potential lack of police presence at Parkdale Mall this holiday season after the Beaumont Police Department (BPD) pulled out of its substation earlier this year. But police say the closing of the substation has not negatively impacted crime in the shopping center as patrolmen are always close at hand and extra units are currently assigned to protect Christmas shoppers and others.

Beaumont Parkdale Mall general manager Norma Garza announced Wednesday, March 16, plans to implement a Youth Escort Policy (YEP) “designed to provide all of its shoppers and retailers with a family-friendly, convenient and enjoyable shopping experience.”
