Sherylen Tate

A woman who died in a fatal traffic accident Jan. 12 has been identified as 44-year-old Beaumont resident Sherylen Engelbrecht Tate, the Beaumont Police Department reports.

On Tuesday, January 5, 2016, at approximately 10:17 p.m., officers of the Port Arthur Police Department were dispatched to the 7900 block of Memorial Blvd. in reference to an auto pedestrian accident.

According to Sergeant Lloyd, officers learned a 2013 Dodge Ram had been northbound in the inside lane when it struck a 30-year-old male pedestrian who was in the roadway. The pedestrian was transported to St. Elizabeth hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. The driver of the Ram remained on the scene and is cooperating with investigators.

On Sunday, October 4, 2015, at approximately 4:25 p.m., officers of the Orange Police Department were dispatched to the 2400 block of 16th Street in regards to an auto-pedestrian accident.

July 4 at 10:49 p.m. Jefferson County DPS Officers were notified of an auto pedestrian crash in the westbound lanes of Interstate 10 in the vicinity of Smith Road. Indications are that a 2003 Toyota Camry driven by Laciona Powell, 39, of Beaumont was traveling westbound on Interstate 10 just west of Beaumont when her vehicle struck a pedestrian was walking in the roadway, the DPS said in a press release.

An auto-pedestrian accident in the 8400 block of U.S. 69 in Port Arthur on Feb. 25 at about 10:25 p.m. resulted in the death of 50-year-old Port Arthur resident Lester "LC" Cowart.

According to a news release from PAPD, officers responded to the accident and determined that a person attempting to cross the freeway on foot was struck by a vehicle in the northbound lanes of traffic.
