According to a news release from the Pinehurst Police Department, dispatch received a call regarding lightning striking a tree and causing a fire in the 3700 block of Whippoorwill Street at about 12:40 p.m. The Pinehurst Fire Department arrived quickly and extinguished the fire before it could spread to nearby structures, police report.
