Lt. Frank Ramirez

Port Arthur police chief Patrick Melvin has selected a deputy chief, promoting Lt. Frank Ramirez to the position, according to a statement PAPD.

The selection process involved a seven-member panel comprised of city staff, community members, a public safety chief and a prosecutor from the district attorney’s office to interview all selected candidates. According to the release, the panel was impressed with all candidates and found it difficult to make a selection. However, the board unanimously selected Ramirez.

A Vidor Police Department Street Crimes narcotics investigation in the 1200 block of Fourth St. led to the arrest of four people the night of Sunday, Sept 11, according to the department.

Officers entered with the homeowner’s consent and discovered synthetic marijuana, a water pipe, marijuana roaches, pipes and a homemade smoking bong.

On Monday, January 4, 2016, at 5:50 p.m., a subject contacted the Port Arthur Police Department stating she had been robbed.

According Sgt. Rowe, upon arrival, officers spoke with the victim and learned the robbery occurred several minutes earlier, but the victim's cell phone was taken, and she was unable to immediately contact the police.
