A Jefferson County jury found former City of Port Arthur Water Utilities Distribution Maintenance Supervisor Joseph Soliz guilty on six counts of theft of metal by a public servant on Dec. 14 for stealing more than 8 tons – 16,000 pounds – of city-owned metals during his tenure there.

Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office detectives have obtained arrest warrants for two people in reference to a residential burglary that occurred Nov. 29, 2017, at 2665 N. Twin City Highway.

The burglary occurred between 8:30 a.m. and 11:45 a.m. while the resident was away from his home, but surveillance video from the Jakes Fireworks stand next door caught the burglary on video.  The time stamp was 10:03 a.m.

Arbitration hearing of Mickey Sterling

Fired Port Arthur Det. Mickey Sterling’s arbitration hearing continued into its third day Nov. 16. But with no end yet in sight, arbitrator Don Hays postponed the hearing, and time will be set aside for him to hear the rest of the story at a later date. Hays indicated he hopes he will get the whole truth, and he is taking measures to ensure that he does.

A Port Arthur man arrested in connection with a recent fatal shooting admitted to shooting the victim in the chest, according to documents obtained from the Port Arthur Police Department.

The City of Port Arthur has begun the process of bringing home Port Arthur residents who were evacuated to other regions in Texas in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey, the city announced Sept. 18, with residents arriving at the Bob Bowers Civic Center shelter location.

But it seems that wasn’t always the plan.

Willie Laday, 42, is charged with aggravated assault for allegedly beating a Jefferson County teen with a tree limb as well as random wood, according to an indictment handed up against the Port Arthur man on Oct. 18.

On Oct. 18, at 8:40 a.m., the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office Narcotics Unit and SWAT conducted a search warrant in the 3100 block of Thomas Boulevard in Port Arthur, Capt. Crystal Holmes said in a release.
