Police in Port Arthur are investigating a fatality crash that claimed the life of a 78-year-old Houston man Sept. 11, reports the Port Arthur Police Department (PAPD).

According to a news release from PAPD, officers responded to a major traffic accident in the 3500 block of S. MLK shortly after 9 p.m. Upon arrival to the location, officers discovered an apparently deceased male lying in the middle of the roadway.

Rain-slick roads resulting from weekend showers reportedly caused a driver to lose control and strike two pedestrians, injuring multiple people involved in the accident, reports Port Arthur Police Department (PAPD) Detective Sadie Guedry.

Police in Port Arthur are investigating a home invasion of a residence there and searching for the suspects who held a homeowner at gunpoint while they robbed him, reports the Port Arthur Police Department (PAPD). 

According to PAPD, officers responded to a call reporting the home invasion on Aug. 31. Upon arrival at the targeted residence, officers learned that several suspects entered the home, held the victim at gunpoint and removed several items from the residence before fleeing the scene. The homeowner was unharmed.

Dacqure Holmes was sentenced to 30 years in prison, for two counts of aggravated robbery, which was announced by District Attorney Bob Wortham Monday, Aug. 27. 

According to a press release from the District Attorney’s Office of Jefferson County, on March 20, 2017, Holmes held a 14-year-old at shotgun point at a bus stop in Port Arthur. Holmes stole money from the juvenile and forced him to remove all of his clothing.

Police in Port Arthur are investigating an industrial accident that claimed the life of a 21-year-old Bridge City man on Aug. 17, reports Deputy Chief Martin Blitch.

According to Blitch, Port Arthur Police Department (PAPD) officers responded to the 8700 Old Ferry Rd, Tubal-Caine Marine Services, in reference to a man down at approximately 1:34 p.m. on Friday. The initial investigation indicated that Tyler Winfree of Bridge City was pronounced deceased at the scene. Judge Mark DeRouen has ordered an autopsy.

Police in Port Arthur are investigating a homicide after a stabbing resulted in the death of 31-year-old Roderick Wiltz a few days after he was attacked during an argument, reports the Port Arthur Police Department (PAPD).

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) has issued an Ozone Action Day for the Beaumont-Port Arthur area for Friday, August 3.

Atmospheric conditions are expected to be favorable for producing high levels of ozone air pollution in the Beaumont-Port Arthur area on Friday. Local residents can help prevent ozone pollution by sharing a ride, walking or riding a bicycle, taking lunch to work, avoiding drive-through lanes, conserving energy and keeping vehicles properly tuned.

Police in Port Arthur are investigating a July 25 shooting that left a 49-year-old man dead.

Officer with the Port Arthur Police Department (PAPD) responded to a call reporting shots fired at the Prince Hall Village Apartments at 914 W. 14th St. in Port Arthur at 10:22 p.m. The officers were soon informed a subject had been shot at the location.

Upon arrival to the apartment complex, officers found the male victim, identified as Floyd Dergent, apparently deceased and suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

James Viltz Thomas

Criminal District Attorney Bob Wortham announced that State District Judge Raquel West of the 252ndDistrict Court of Jefferson County accepted a jury verdict and sentenced James Viltz Thomas, 40, to 10 years in prison.
