A Port Arthur man arrested in connection with a recent fatal shooting admitted to shooting the victim in the chest, according to documents obtained from the Port Arthur Police Department.

Willie Laday, 42, is charged with aggravated assault for allegedly beating a Jefferson County teen with a tree limb as well as random wood, according to an indictment handed up against the Port Arthur man on Oct. 18.

A Jefferson County grand jury has indicted Charles Ryan Venable, 35, of Beaumont, for stealing baby formula and baby wipes from HEB on FM 365 in Port Arthur.

June 28, witnesses at the grocery store told Port Arthur police a man in a blue shirt ran from the store with a basket of merchandise that he did not pay for, the probable cause affidavit states.

The officer located Venable in a red Ford sedan behind the Jack in the Box on FM 365.

A Jefferson County grand jury has indicted Ariel Imanol Gomez, 18, of Port Arthur for theft and aggravated robbery.

July 18 at about 10:04 p.m., Port Arthur Police officers received a report of a robbery and responded to Port Arthur Fire Station No. 1.

A Domino’s Pizza employee told police that she took an order to an address on 15th Street, the indictment states. When she arrived, a man got out of a silver Honda sedan and tried to pay with a $100 bill. The man told her that he did not have change and asked her to meet him at a nearby store.

On July 31 at 7:19 p.m., Port Arthur Police Officers were dispatched to the 1100 block of Sabine Avenue in response to a shooting.

On the afternoon of June 20, Port Arthur Police officers were dispatched to the 3200 block of 42nd Street.

Police and SWAT team officers in Port Arthur peacefully negotiated a hostage situation at a residence there May 18 and arrested one man, reports the Port Arthur Police Department (PAPD).

According to a statement from spokesperson LaRisa Carpenter, officers conducting a burglary investigation identified, detained and arrested a suspect, 38-year-old Christopher James Simpson. Officers reportedly witnessed the suspect carrying a television into the residence at 2426 11th St. and secured the perimeter of the property.
