The Greater Port Arthur Chamber of Commerce is asking for assistance in raising $22,000 for Coast Guard service men and women who are not receiving their regular paychecks due to the partial federal government shutdown.

UPDATE: Armando Negrete Jr. is in custody after being arrested Wednesday, Jan. 9, at approximately 2 a.m. on 64th Street in the Port Acres area of Port Arthur.

The Port Arthur Police Department is asking Southeast Texans for their help in apprehending a wanted fugitive, 36-year-old Armando Negrete Jr., who has two outstanding warrants for burglary of a habitation. Each warrants carry a bond of $500,000.

According to the Port Arthur Police Department, just after midnight on Dec. 6, officers responded to the 2400 block of Julian Dr. in reference to an assault. Upon arrival officers discovered a black female had been shot several times in the upper torso.

A woman was found allegedly shot by her boyfriend shortly after midnight Thursday, Dec. 6, in the 2400 block of Julian Drive, according to a statement from Port Arthur Police.

An 18-year-old Port Arthur man has been indicted for murder Dec. 5 related to the March 4 shooting death of 18-year-old Kevonn J. Washington.

Officers with the Port Arthur Police Department (PAPD) arrested James Earl Holloway Nov. 13 and charged him with Washington’s murder. Washington was found deceased at the Lakeview Palms Apartments, located at 5200 Gulfway Dr., having suffered multiple gunshot wounds.

A 20-year-old Port Arthur man was transported to a local hospital the evening of Monday, Dec. 3, due to a gunshot wound to his lower extremities, reports the Port Arthur Police Department (PAPD).

According to PAPD, officers responded to the 1400 block of Florida Avenue after receiving a call about a shooting. After arriving the victim was found by police officers and transported to a local medical facility for treatment. The investigation into the shooting is ongoing. Police have not released the name of the victim.
