Police in Port Arthur are investigating a shooting that occurred in the city at about 4:30 p.m. on Jan. 27. According to a news release from the Port Arthur Police Department, two representatives of a local repossession company were fired upon as they attempted to collect a vehicle whose owner was behind on payments.

As the result of an ongoing corruption investigation in Port Arthur, four suspects were charged with felony theft on Jan. 25 stemming from allegations they were involved in a gas theft scheme involving two former Port Arthur Public Works Department supervisors and two Port Arthur business owners, reports the Jefferson County District Attorney's Office. According to JCDA, all four were an active part of and individually profited from stealing gas from the city of Port Arthur.

The Texas Artists Museum, also known as New Concept Gallery, at 3501 Cultural Drive in Port Arthur, behind the Bob Bowers Civic Center, is featuring the work of more than 25 local artists and has announced a Grand Opening Reception for Jan. 28 between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.

More than 160 original pieces of art work will be available for viewing at the museum. Artists' works will be changed out every three months, bringing in new pieces every quarter.

Darrell Mason, 19, of Port Arthur, the father of abused infant Faith Mason, pleaded guilty to injury to a child Friday, Jan. 15, in relation to the injuries his daughter suffered in August 2013 in the weeks after her birth.

Investigators with the Jefferson County District Attorney’s office continue to uncover corrupt practices of certain City of Port Arthur employees, starting with city employee Shauwn Williams in December 2014, advancing with the arrest of municipal court clerk Sharon Shelvin for theft earlier this year, and now resulting in arrests of two city department supervisors, the latest on Jan. 5.

On Tuesday, January 5, 2016, at approximately 10:17 p.m., officers of the Port Arthur Police Department were dispatched to the 7900 block of Memorial Blvd. in reference to an auto pedestrian accident.

According to Sergeant Lloyd, officers learned a 2013 Dodge Ram had been northbound in the inside lane when it struck a 30-year-old male pedestrian who was in the roadway. The pedestrian was transported to St. Elizabeth hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. The driver of the Ram remained on the scene and is cooperating with investigators.

The former city of Port Arthur Water Meter Services Department Supervisor, 57-year-old Robert Leblanc, was arrested and formally charged Jan. 5 by the Jefferson County District Attorney's Office.

Leblanc is charged with five counts of theft by a public servant involving 21 incidents of metal theft, each charge being a third-degree felony offense. The stolen metal were water meter parts belonging to the city of Port Arthur. Bond was set at $60,000.
