Port Arthur Police Department Narcotics Officers, with the assistance of the United States Postal Service and the Port Arthur SWAT Team, conducted a search warrant in the 3900 block of Shadowbend Lane on March 24. A search of the residence uncovered approximately six pounds of high-grade marijuana along with THC oils and wax, reports Port Arthur spokesperson Risa Carpenter.

The city of Port Arthur has reinstated two of several Port Arthur Police Department officers recently placed on administrative leave pending an internal investigation by the department, reports city spokesperson LaRisa Carpenter.

The City of Port Arthur held a ribbon cutting for the Pavilion and People's Park on March 21.

“We’re excited about the possibilities that it brings to Port Arthur,” City of Port Arthur spokesperson LaRisa Carpenter said.

The city believes the Pavilion and Peoples Park are “key elements that will help to ignite and sustain downtown re-development,” Carpenter said in a press release.

Former Beaumont Independent School District contract electrician Calvin Walker, under state indictment for allegedly defrauding and illegally collecting millions of dollars from BISD and the city of Port Arthur, has challenged the constitutionality of the pending state criminal prosecution to the United States Supreme Court (SCOTUS).

A judge sentenced two former city of Port Arthur employees, John Tomplait and Carleton Edwards, on March 20 for their roles in separate thefts from the city resulting in thousands of dollars in losses.

Former Port Arthur assistant water utilities director John Tomplait was sentenced to probation for stealing more than 1,600 pounds of metal from the city.

The Port Arthur Police Department announced that effective March 21 Sgt. Kris Boneau is no longer on administrative leave and is returning to work at the department. 

"No disciplinary action has been taken against Boneau, and he is being reinstated with the PAPD as a result of PAPD's internal administrative investigation," Port Arthur spokesperson LaRisa Carpenter stated in a news release.

One of several Port Arthur Police Department officers placed on administrative leave pending an investigation has been reinstated effective March 20, reports city spokesperson LaRisa Carpenter. 

"Owens has been reassigned as a shift commander within the field operations division," Carpenter stated in an email. 

Prior to being placed on administrative leave, Owens was a major in the criminal investigations division at PAPD. He was demoted to lieutenant in field operations.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office has identified a man who died in the book-in area of the office on March 18 as 33-year-old Byron James Sessions of Nederland.

Police are investigating a weekend shooting at Prince Hall Apartments in Port Arthur that left two teens with gunshot wounds and possibly injured another unknown individual, reports the Port Arthur Police Department.
