On Monday, January 4, 2016, at 5:50 p.m., a subject contacted the Port Arthur Police Department stating she had been robbed.

According Sgt. Rowe, upon arrival, officers spoke with the victim and learned the robbery occurred several minutes earlier, but the victim's cell phone was taken, and she was unable to immediately contact the police.

On Friday, December 18, 2015, at approximately 12:34 p.m., officers of the Port Arthur Police Department were dispatched to 1745 10th Street in reference to an unresponsive person.

According to Major Raymond Clark, upon arrival, it was determined that a male, later identified as 29-year-old Michael Reed, was deceased. Investigators believe that Reed had sustained injuries consistent with being attacked. Investigators conducted a thorough examination of the crime scene and are treating the death as a homicide.

Chief Mark Blanton

Statement from the City of Port Arthur:

Port Arthur Police Chief Mark Blanton is announcing his plans to retire December 31. Though he will be formally retired at the end of the year, he will remain on staff on a temporary basis while the search is underway for his replacement.

Chief Blanton said, “I am fortunate that I have grown up in law enforcement in this city. Everyone knows me and I have had great support from the community.”

Police in Port Arthur arrested a resident there who fired shots outside his home then barricaded himself inside with a woman and child on Nov. 25, reports the Port Arthur Police Department.

Nov. 19, Carleton Edwards, 49, the former Superintendent of the Streets Division for the City of Port Arthur, was arrested on 46 counts of credit card abuse. Investigators with the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office and the Port Arthur Police Department say he was using a city credit card during his time with Port Arthur.

Edwards is accused of abuse of the credit card during his tenure as superintendent, spanning from July 2014 through October 2015.
