Police in Port Arthur are warning the public that callers posing as emergency dispatchers are contacting city residents to tell them they have outstanding tickets and threatening arrest if they don't send money immediately. 

According to a news release from the Port Arthur Police Department, they have received multiple reports from people who were called by a number that appeared to be the Port Arthur Police 9-1-1 Dispatch Operators and told to send money via Western Union right away or get thrown in jail.

Shoppers in Port Arthur may soon be taking a new route on their nightly dog walk. From 5-8 p.m. each Wednesday in August, beginning August 10, Central Mall, managed by JLL, is encouraging its shoppers to bring their pooches in for themed events. The newly launched Dog Days program will feature fur-friendly experiences on four themed nights:

Port Arthur resident Vanessa Ann Davis, 54, was indicted by the Jefferson County Grand Jury for intoxication manslaughter and two charges of aggravated assault on July 20, reports the Jefferson County District Attorney's office. The indictments stem from the fatal motor vehicle crash that resulted in the death of Pamela Fields, 51, also a resident of Port Arthur, and the injuries caused to the other passengers in Davis’ vehicle.

A drug deal gone wrong that led to murder in Port Arthur resulted in a 40-year-sentence for a 20-year-old man, the Jefferson County District Attorney's Office announced July 8. According to a the DA's office, Logan Carter was sentenced Friday in the shooting death of 42-year-old Michael Blanchard that occurred on September 29, 2015.

At least one sniper targeted law enforcement officers in a deadly mass shooting in Dallas on Thursday, July 7, killing five officers and wounding several others, including two civilians. One of the officers killed in the shooting was a Port Arthur native.

Police in Port Arthur are investigating the death of a woman who was reportedly shot and killed outside a convenience store on Jimmy Johnson Boulevard on July 2 when an off-duty security guard attempted to stop a robbery in progress, reports the Port Arthur Police Department (PAPD).
