A man is dead following a crane accident near Motiva Port Arthur Refinery that occurred Thursday, July 13.

Port Arthur Police Department reports that it responded to an accident at MLK and Terminal road near the Motiva plant at approximately 5 p.m. Thursday to find that a crane had fallen on an individual. PAPD reports that Acadian Ambulance responded to the scene and transported the man to the Medical Center of Southeast Texas, where he was pronounced dead.

During a meeting May 9, the Beaumont City Council unanimously approved an amendment to the city’s industrial district agreement with ExxonMobil and approved abatements requested by the company for new local expansion.

Total announced Monday, March 27, that the company is entering into a partnership with Borealis and Nova to form a joint venture with the aim of building an ethane steam cracker at the Port Arthur facility and a new Borstar polyethylene unit in Bayport.

Police ultimately arrested a man who led them on chase through the city of Port Arthur as officers investigated a report that the man was repeatedly ramming the gates at the Motiva refinery with his car, reports Sgt. R. Rowe of the Port Arthur Police Department (PAPD).

Saturday, Sept. 5, 2015, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center received a 911 call in reference to an industrial incident at the TOTAL facility in the 7400 block of 32nd Street in Port Arthur. Upon arrival, deputies were directed to the coke pits at the facility, where they learned a bulldozer occupied by one individual had entered the pits and become submerged.
