Damage from heavy trucks has battered local roads in and around the state's oil fields, and many counties want the state to help pay for repairs and maintenance. Will lawmakers take action?

W.C. Steinmann says his family roots in Texas date back to 1882.

The 74-year-old rancher lives in DeWitt County, between San Antonio and Victoria, an area surrounded by oil and natural gas fields. Steinmann and other local property owners say the oil and gas boom is destroying the rural road system.

Residents along Allison Avenue and Woodlawn Street in Groves say their streets have been puckered with potholes and drain poorly after years of rainstorms.

Their neighborhood, built in the late ’50s and early ’60s, is now overgrown with large live oak trees that were just saplings when the roads were originally built.

Taylor Cochran has lived on Allison Avenue since 1994. His family moved into the house when he was a child.

In a statement, Texas Department of Transportation spokesperson Sarah Dupre warned motorists that I-10 would remained closed indefinitely subsequent to recent flooding until repairs have been made to the roadway.

Effective January 4, 2016, Avenue A from East Lavaca Street to Church Street will be closed to through traffic from 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. until Monday, January 18, 2016.  This closure will allow the city to repair the pavement in this area.

From the City of Beaumont: Effective Monday, December 28, 2015, Champions Drive from Kemper Circle to Gleneagles Drive will be closed to all traffic from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m. until Wednesday, December 30, 2015. This closure will allow the city to repair the pavement in this area. Local traffic can access Gleneagles Drive through Willow Bend Drive. Motorists are asked to be aware of all detour signs, advance warnings including other signage, and travel with caution.
