Police are investigating the shooting death of a 46-year-old Vidor man after a family dispute allegedly erupted in violence on July 4, reports Vidor Police Chief Rod Carroll. 

According to Carroll, police dispatch received a call at 8:17 p.m. that night in reference to a shooting in the 100 block of Carla Street in Vidor. Upon arrival, officers found the victim, identified by police as Gregory Paul Goldsmith, being treated by medics from Acadian Ambulance Service. The medics were unable to revive Goldsmith and declared him deceased at the scene.

On Friday, June 30, 2017, at 10:51 pm the Vidor Police Department Dispatch Center received a call of an automobile collision in the 600 Block of S. Main Street. The caller advised the vehicle had left the roadway, flipped and was submerged in the School House Ditch. The caller advised that there were individuals entrapped in the vehicle. The first Officer on scene found the vehicle submerged up-side down in approximately four feet of water. Arriving officers and firefighters entered the waterway to conduct a water rescue.

The city of Vidor and the Vidor Police Department honored the heroic actions of Sgt. Lee Brading during a Life-Saving Award Ceremony at City Hall on May 3. Brading literally breathed life back into an unresponsive infant at a Vidor residence March 15, performing CPR on the baby twice during the encounter, reports Police Chief Rod Carroll.

Vidor Police responded to the 900 block of Sarver Thursday, Feb. 23 at 11:40 a.m. to a call that a 17-year-old male had dismembered his right hand at the forearm with a radial arm saw. The teen was taken by ambulance to a landing zone where a medical transport helicopter could take him to UTMB Galveston, according to Vidor Police Chief Rod Carroll, but was then re-routed to St. Elizabeth Hospital due to the life-threatening conditions he sustained. Carroll said he didn't know if the teen's hand could be saved.

Vidor Police and Orange County Fire ESD #1 were notified of an 18 wheeler on fire on I-10 westbound at mile marker 862 on Feb. 1 at 6:45 a.m., Vidor Police Chief Rod Carroll said in a statement.

Since Vidor Police Chief Dave Shows announced his retirement earlier this year, the search has been ongoing for a new chief, and Vidor City Manager Mike Kunst says the city has narrowed it down to four candidates from 20 applicants.

Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Assistant Chief Deputy Rod Carroll announced March 3 that he is resigning from his position at the end of he year after a disappointing finish in the primary election for Jefferson County Sheriff. 

On a Facebook post, Carroll thanked his supporters and friends for their efforts during his campaign for sheriff, and said he is unsure about what the future holds.
